Dear friends,
The beautiful island of Skyros invites us this year for the 10thannual International Seminar-Meeting on the Rebetiko Songs, which this year will take place from July 15 to July 22, 2018.
The Manos and Anastasia Faltaits Folklore and Ethnological Museum as well as the Cultural Center of the Municipality of Skyros (PE.A.P), that have always aided us in this effort, are ready to welcome us once again to their hospitable venues, for a beautiful journey to our Rebetiko music.
We decided to celebrate together with the entities that have supported us all these years, by organizing an open meeting in Athens, on Saturday March 17, 2018 at 20:00, at the “UNDERFLOW” RECORD STORE AND ART GALLERY (Kallirois 39, right opposite the Metro station of Sigrou-Fix, tel: 211-403 9926).
At this meeting, we will talk, exchange views and of course play rebetiko, the music we love. An exhibition with items from the archive of Konstantinos Faltaits relative to the rebetiko will be held at the same gallery.
Everyone is invited to our event: the attendants of the seminar, friends who love rebetiko and anyone who wants to be informed about our musical meetings and generally the cultural activities that take place in Skyros, with the contribution of the Manos and Anastasia Faltaits Folklore and Ethnological Museum and the Cultural Center of the Municipality of Skyros. We will soon publish the detailed program for the open event of March 17.
We are also happy to announce that during the December meeting (4-9 December 2017) the intergovernmental committee of UNESCO approved the registration of the Rebetiko in the List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, after examining the relevant application file.
Our team, along with others, contributed to the Ministry of Culture’s effort, and in particular the efforts of the Directorate for the New Cultural Heritage and the Intangible Cultural Heritage, headed by Mrs. Stavroula-Villi Fotopoulou and her associates, to formulate and submit a full application for the inscription of the Rebetiko to the UNESCO’s List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
